Sex drive, or a person's level of sexual desire and motivation, is referred to as libido. When a person's libido is low, he or she is less interested in sexual activity (low sexual desire). Low libido is a symptom of a bigger medical condition called sexual dysfunction, which includes physical loss of sexual function but is not the same as libido loss.
Low libido can lead to a slew of health issues.
In some men, erectile dysfunction, a type of male sexual dysfunction, can lead to a lack of desire. Erectile dysfunction is caused by a variety of factors, including ageing, obesity, high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol, thyroid issues, cigarette smoking, diabetes, restless leg syndrome, prostate cancer, obstructive sleep apnea, and heart disease. Low testosterone, erectile dysfunction, reduced libido, and lower sex frequency have all been associated to a higher 10-year risk of cardiovascular disease in men, according to some data.
Female sexual dysfunction, which can be caused by uterine fibroids, endometriosis, obesity, high blood pressure, or menopause, can lead to a decrease in libido in women. Certain medicines, such as hormonal birth control tablets (a type of hormone treatment) and those used to treat mood disorders, have been shown to decrease libido in some women.
